I have been experimenting with remote control of HRD via the internet with fantastic results.
I have successfully operated HRD remotely with a laptop running Windows XP as the server and a laptop using Windows XP or Win-7 as the remote client.
The TX/RX audio is provided by either IP-Sound or Skype interface. IP-Sound Final 5.7 or 5.8 for networking is available on the Internet or myself.
You will have to interface the audio Line-in and out on the PC running HRD server with the radio mic input and received audio out.
On some radio equipment there are external connections for mic input and received audio/line located at the back of the radio.
This is normally via a plug and socket.
A static IP address is also required and can be provided by a VPN service using Hamachi software or a other.
This is available for download at:
LogMeln Hamachi - Download
It is important to provide a means to escape, i.e. to be able to remove the power from the radio equipment in the event of a problem or a software crash, yes it's a Windows operating system!
So Remote IP-Power is used here for remote switching of the radio equipment, that's if the Windows server hasn't fallen over, um,,, must look into dual redundant servers, is there ever any end to this!
